Late night patrols on Blackpool and Preston trains towards Manchester are being stepped up, British Transport Police said.

Officers will patrol services in a bid to target anti-social behaviour and reducing offences on late night services in a bid to increase passenger safety.

The first night, last Thursday, saw special constables team up with BTP officers to reassure passengers in the county.

Sgt Tom Nicholls said: “Patrols such as this help reassure the public about using the railways late at night.

“We want people to feel safe and we will be keeping our eyes open for any instances of anti-social or criminal behaviour.

“With the valued support of special constables we are able to provide high visibility travelling officers.

“These patrols will be aimed at high visibility crime reduction in line with British Transport Police’s Operation Magnum on the west coast mainline.

“Officers will also focus on late night services and be on hand to assist rail staff and passengers as well as hand out crime prevention leaflets.”
