POLICE have praised the bravery of an elderly couple for helping them put together an Evofit image of the man who conned them out of £5,000.
Officers are appealing for information on the bogus builder and his associates in Poulton.
The conman struck between October 18 and 20 when the victims, who are aged in their 80s, were cold-called by a man purporting to be a builder.
The man told the couple work needed to be carried out on their roof and that he required £3,500 cash up front.
This money was duly paid and over a number of days the conman and his associates attended the victims’ home on Sefton Avenue and carried out minimal work that amounted to jet washing the roof slates clean.
The offenders then requested a further £750 in cash for further non-quoted work before re-contacting the victims to demand a further £800 to cover VAT.
DC Andy Simpson from Fleetwood CID said it took courage for the couple to help compile the image.
He added: “This man has taken advantage of an elderly and vulnerable couple and I would appeal to anyone who has any information, or knows the identity of this man to call Lancashire Police on 101.”
The man is described as white, approximately 38 to 43 years of age, clean shaven with short hair and dressed in blue overalls.
