Former journalist tells her own tale

Angela Norris, who wrote for the Garstang Courier, wrote Dancing To The Beat Of The Tide about her years growing up in the Over Wyre area in the 1960s and 70s.

The book details Angela’s childhood experiences from village dances, education - including her school days at St Aidan’s – to the building boom in the villages in the 1970s and 80s.

The area saw a great deal of change in that time with the boundary between Knott End and Preesall where Angela grew up and went on to bring up her own family, blurring.

In the book she also writes in depth about her first job as a journalist on the Courier. Angela left journalism following a stint in newspapers to purse a career in healthcare.

To promote the book Angela last week gave a talk at Knott End library.

The event, attended by more than 60 people, gave the former journalist a chance to talk not only about her memories but to open up debate about hot topics including the Halite gas storage controversy and the mooted Wyre Barrage between Fleetwood and Knott End.

Among those attending were two of Angela’s friends and colleagues from her media days - Garstang freelance journalist Anthony Coppin and onetime Lancashire Post, Lancaster Guardian and Garstang Courier photographer Steve Pendrill
