A campaign has been launched to raise £53,000 to revamp a chidren’s play area in a Fleetwood park.

The Friends of the Memorial Park have set the daunting challenge of raising the money within the next 12 months.

The Memorial Park, in Park Avenue, Fleetwood, has won a clutch of Green Flag awards over the last five years, denoting it as a quality green space.

It is also one of the nation’s few parks designed specifically as a memorial to the fallen of the First World War.

Despite this, its play area is badly in need of a revamp.

The Friends have a shopping list of items to change all that, such as new child-safety flooring, a large roundabout with disability provisions, a climbing frame with slide and a special double mother-and-baby swing.

Friends member Ella Fletcher (inset), said: “We have £3,000 in our account and Wyre Council have also offered to help us apply to funding organisations.

“But we are also looking for businesses or groups to help.”
