I was not delighted my landmark home got demolished

With regard to the demolition of our beloved family home, Green Ridges, your article implies that I was delighted at the proposal of it being pulled down (The Gazette, August 17).

That is untrue. I was delighted that the appeal submitted by the developers had been upheld for the following reasons:

The aggressive campaign by the objectors was totally unacceptable, some voicing their concerns that it was going too far.

There were posts on a local website encouraging people to write letters of objection to the council.

These were removed after complaints to the website from local residents who felt that we were being bullied.

Their next tactic was to attain a tree preservation order on trees in our garden. Two of these trees were to be removed under the development plan.

In all five trees were to be removed (one was dead) and seven planted.

Not satisfied with their actions so far, they applied to have the house locally listed, confirmation of which came through the same day as the appeal was upheld.

It is a pity that those involved in objecting to the development appeared to think that because some of them were very wealthy, they could buy the result they desired and cannot accept that they lost.

Their actions made the house unsaleable and thereby helped determine its fate.
