An Olympic diver will help launch an event promoting the ambitious Five for Fleetwood project, which will see huge improvement’s to the town’s seafront.

Medal-winning diver Peter Waterfield, who has dived with Tom Daley, will perform alongside the La Quebrada team at the Dizzy Heights event, and could also assist them with their world record attempt of a mass dive while on fire.

The festival will take place around the Marine Hall on May 24, with a heady mix of comedy, music, high diving, zip wire rides and a climbing wall.

The event has been well-received, but there has been some criticism about the publicising of 70 stalls which are up for grabs to promote local businesses and organisations.

Bob Boal, from the Fleetwood Community Trust, said: “While this will be a tremendous event for Fleetwood we feel there has been a dearth of detail from the council about how the various community groups and traders can get

Wyre Council defended its position, saying that invitations for organisations to take up a stall were circulated through a whole host of different networks, including business networking event Wyred Up, and social media.

A council spokeswoman said: “We’re delighted at the buzz the event has already
created, not just in Fleetwood, but also outside the town.

“Local businesses have jumped at the chance to
display posters and flyers to help us promote it and a
decent number of organisations have snapped up our
invitation to take a stall. There is still time to join them, as long as we hear by Friday.
