A MASSIVE £ £35 million investment in Fleetwood Nautical Campus will give the facility an even brighter future.
Blackpool and The Fylde College’s ambitious redevelopment plans would see a new campus on the existing site on Fleetwood Road.
Learning facilities will be transformed and the existing world class facilities will be incorporated to keep the Nautical campus at the forefront of offshore education both nationally and internationally.
If the plans are approved, work is due to commence in 2009 and will be completed by September 2011.
Project director John Pye said: “The current buildings at this site have aged extremely well. However, they are in need of regular maintenance and, after careful assessment by the college, a decision was taken that a more cost-effective way to give the campus the facelift it requires is a new build.”
Principal Pauline Waterhouse said: “Because the nautical campus provides such specialist courses, we attract a wide range of different students, from all over the world. The facilities will be second to none and this is a tremendous opportunity for us to further reinforce our reputation as a leading provider of maritime and nautical education, as well as providing an economic boost for the town.”
Three sites: the new further education college at Sands Way, which will cost an estimated 145 million; the redeveloped nautical campus, together with a new 10million university campus at the college’s existing Palatine Road site which will be completed in 2009 form a 188 million expansion of the college.
The plans will be submitted next month for approval in principle.
