Long term scheme to show support for our fishermen

IN Westminster I held a meeting with John Woodcock, MP for Barrow and Furness and David Morris, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, together with the energy companies responsible for windfarms in the Irish Sea.

There have been plans to set up a fund to support possible developments in the future for fishing. This is not compensation for individual fishermen, (a separate issue that I am still fighting), but a more long term scheme. The fund is in its early stages and my initial thoughts are that we need some sort of charitable trust, separate from the developers, to manage any possible grants. I will be meeting representatives of what remains of our local fishing industry and the council to see how we can take this forward.

I also visited the Blood Donation centre at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and was pleased to hear how many Fleetwood people are regular donors. I was interested to learn that as well as the drive to recruit blood donors, they are also trying to encourage more people to donate platelets. Please think about it. Visit www.blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23.
