A man is in a serious condition after being pulled from a burning house earlier this morning.

The 31-year-old was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital suffering from burns and the effects of smoke inhalation, police said.

The man, who has since been transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital, was saved along with a 23-year-old woman from a house in Martindale Avenue, Fleetwood, at around 12.10am.

An investigation has now been launched, with specialist fire officers expected at the scene later today. Officers from Blackpool CID were due to attend.

Fire service spokesman John Taylor said the blaze started near the home’s front door, although a cause has yet to be determined.

Two crews from Fleetwood and one from Bispham used high-pressure jets to put out the fire, and portable fans to clear the house of smoke, he added.
