A FLEETWOOD dental practice has scooped two prestigious regional awards.

Ideal Dental Care won both awards it was nominated for at the Dentistry Awards 2011.

It picked up the award for Best Team in the North West and dental hygiene therapist Andrea Shipton, of Thornton, was crowned Best Dental Care Professional in the North West.

Peter Thompson, practice director, said: “Being recognised by your peers for having such a fantastic team which is made up of talented individuals is wonderful.

“We try hard to ensure our practice is friendly, welcoming and offers high levels of care and treatment and to have this recognised makes me very proud.”

Andrea said: “I was utterly gobsmacked when my name was called out at the awards.

“And it was a double celebration when the team picked up their award.

“My award is such a prestigious accolade and I’m delighted for my patients as they put forward some wonderful testimonials which clearly impressed the judges.”

Mr Thompson’s work with Ideal Dental Care caters for private patients, and he has set up branches across the country, including in Scotland.

Through the Elms Dental Practice in Fleetwood, he also has a large number of NHS patients.

He is currently converting the former Fleetwood Arms pub into its new HQ.

An open day will be held once the construction work is complete.

Mr Thompson said: “We are a dental teaching practice as well as a treatment practice, and we also have a great deal of administration to deal with.

“There was simply no longer enough room for all this to be handled in the one building on London Street.”

The ground floor of the new building will be devoted to the dental teaching facilities, the first floor will be for dental surgery and the top floor for offices.”

The Elms is currently Fleetwood’s only NHS dental practice, with 10 dentists and no less than 24,000 patients on its register.
