Fund-raisers in Fleetwood who help scientists in the fight against cancer are hoping local people will help boost their efforts.

The Fleetwood Cancer Research Committee is staging a six-mile sponsored walk along the seafront on Sunday, May 19.

Walkers will leave the Central Car Park opposite the Mount Hotel at 1pm and walk along the sea wall to the gate which leads onto Cleveleys Promenade near Rossall School.

Committee chairman Joan Bowes said: “We do have sponsorship forms available but people can just turn up on the day, make a donation and join in for all or part of the route.

“It’s not too difficult a walk so it’s suitable for families.”

The committee stage other fund-raisers including monthly coffee mornings, car boot sales and tin collections.

In the past 12 months, an impressive £14,000 has been raised, with every penny going to world famous The Christie hospital in Manchester.

Sponsor forms can be obtained from Fleetwood Health Centre on Dock Street or Margaret Thompson on (01253) 899769.
