McDonald’s at the Freeport Fleetwood shopping outlet will celebrate Bank Holiday Monday in style – by attempting to claim a new UK record, handing out free food in the process.

The Harbour Village eatery is going to head-to-head with McDonald’s branches across the country in an attempt to set a new National Drive Thru Record.

The restaurant is aiming to serve more vehicles in one hour than any other in the country, during a record attempt on Monday May 5.

To encourage more customers to take part, each car that places an order in the Drive Thru, between noon and 2pm on the day, will recieve a free McChicken Sandwich worth £2.69.

The current record of 232 cars served in one hour is held by Meole Brace in Shrewsbury, but staff at the Freeport Fleetwood McDonald’s branch, which opened in 1999, are hoping to not only match but exceed the record, with aims to serve at least 250.

Adam Curnow, Business Manager at McDonald’s, said: “The restaurant normally serves 130 cars per hour at weekends so we’re going to have our work cut out during the record challenge.

“The Freeport Fleetwood team is determined to break the current record though, so we’re going into the challenge feeling confident.”

Centre Manager, John Magee, added: “We’re eagerly anticipating the National Drive Thru Challenge and hope the people of Fleetwood will get behind us, so we bring home the national title.

“Freeport Fleetwood is already a popular lunchtime destination and we’re expecting footfall this weekend to be at a high.”
