This is the first sneak peek at how a multi-million pound revamp of two Fylde coast leisure centres will look.
Plans revealing the new look for the two facilities, both in Wyre, are set to go on public display next week.
Wyre Council is spending £5m to revamp Thornton Leisure Centre, on Victoria Road East, and Poulton Leisure Centre, on Breck Road, to bring in a range of new facilities.
Designs are set to be displayed at Thornton Little Theatre on November 6 when visitors will be shown a video fly-through and artists impressions of the new features.
They include improved fitness and dance facilities, ten pin bowling lanes, two five-a-side artificial football pitches and an ‘extreme sports’ area at Thornton, plus a spa and additional fitness and studio space at Poulton.
Coun Lynne Bowen, cabinet member with responsibility for leisure at Wyre Council, said: “As well as modernising facilities and giving residents better value for money, this investment will offer more people more opportunities to participate in a wider variety of leisure time activities.”
If planning permission is approved for the plans, construction should start in March 2014 and be completed by next Autumn.
Representatives from Wyre Council and the YMCA – who run the leisure centres – are set to attend the display next week to speak to members of the public from 10am to 2pm and 5pm to 7pm.
Mike Vernon, YMCA Wyre leisure director, added: “The centres have been established since 1974 and we are excited by the prospect of taking the facilities into their next phase while developing a wider range of services and programmes to the benefit of even more local lives.”
From November 7, the plans will be displayed inside both the Poulton and Thornton centres and at the Wyre Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton.
A date for the plans to go before the council’s planning committee has not yet been set.
