Rubbish dumped on road to beauty spot

It is the second time the road has been targeted in the last six months.

One resident, Rachel Wilson, became so annoyed after weeks of seeing the rubbish pile up on Jameson Road that she decided to contact Wyre Council to try and get it moved.

But the authority in turn said the land belonged to United Utilities and there was nothing they could do.

Rachel says she has contacted the utilities firm but nothing has been done.

The latest rubbish deposit includes pieces of cardboard, wood, paper, plastic and an old blue carpet.

Rachel said: “On numerous occasions I have been in contact with Wyre Council regarding this matter but then they said it’s not their land, it belongs to United utilities.

“I have then contacted United Utilities but nothing has been done and the area is becoming an eyesore.

“This should be a road of beauty and wildlife and it leads to our local nature reserve, but instead it is being ruined and nothing is being done.”

Fly-tipping remains a problem in Wyre, particularly Fleetwood.

There were 2,229 fly-tip incidents reported in 2014 – up from 1,906 the year before, and 1570 fly-tips from April 2015 to February this year.

Wyre says one of the biggest contributors to the problem is rogue traders who offer to take people’s waste away cheaply and then dump it.

Numerous sites in Fleetwood have been targeted by the tippers in the past year.

One of the worst cases occurred back in September when an even bigger mountain of rubbish was dumped on Jameson Road, on that occasion even closer to the nature reserve itself.

A spokesman for United Utilities said the issue was being looked into.
