YOUNGSTERS from two schools in Thornton helped the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre plant trees in a new community woodland.
Pupils from Thornton Primary and Great Arley schools transformed the stretch of green land on Heys Street, one of 12 new woodlands being created by Wyre Borough Council.
The planting of oak, ash and hazel trees went ahead after a grant was provided by the Forestry Commission, providing a habitat for birds and other wild life.
In the process of helping to plant the trees, the youngsters learned all about their important to all kinds of wildlife.
The trees also improve the appearance of the local area and have already proved to be a big hit with locals.
