Fraudsters who have been targeting elderly residents across Lancashire have conned a Fleetwood woman out of £5,000.
Police are urging people to be vigilant after receiving reports from across the county of crooks running the lucrative telephone scam.
The offenders pretend to be police, often claiming to be calling about a crime involving their bank.
Police are now investigating after a woman in Fleetwood reported falling victim to the scam.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “The woman has lost £5,000 unfortunately.
“It is a national fraud and there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason why the victims are picked.”
So far, more than 60 incidents have been reported across Lancashire, with the victims losing more than £120,000.
Police say they are not aware of any other reports on the Fylde coast.
