Shop worker tackles 'thief' before spraying them with air freshener at Fleetwood convenience store

A "brave" shop worker attempted to prevent a man from allegedly stealing a full basket of food from a convenience store in Fleetwood.

The incident occurred at the Premier Broadwater Stores in Fleetwood Road at around 6.30am on Monday (March 22).

An employee, who had been working behind the counter, defended herself once she spotted the "man running at her" - spraying him in the face with air freshener.

CCTV footage released by the store shows the shop worker then attempts to retrieve the items by clinging onto the basket as the man attempts to make his escape.

Bosses at the store said the worker did "incredibly well", and was unharmed during the incident.

In a statement posted on social media, a spokesman said: "While she did incredibly well, he still managed to get away with a few things but at least our incredible member of staff wasn't harmed.

"Just a warning to be on the look out for this man."

Lancashire Police said they have received a report of a theft at the store and an investigation has been launched.

Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting log number 0185 of March 22.
