A man who set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s house in a drunken revenge attack has today been jailed for more than two years.
Martin Clark, 25, caused thousands of pounds of damage when he started the blaze on John Street, Thornton, by setting fire to the victim’s clothes, Preston Crown Court heard.
Clark, who lived across the road at the time of the incident in June, pleaded guilty to a charge of arson.
The court heard he was seen stood laughing at his window as firefighters arrived to tackle the blaze.
His former partner, who was not living at the rented home at the time, lost belongings worth more than £3,000 in the blaze. The cost to the landlords was more than £14,000.
Clark’s barrister told the court his client had not coped with being rejected.
It was drunken revenge, he said, but the defendant had not grasped what the consequences might have been.
Judge Ian Leeming QC sentenced Clark to 28 months behind bars.
