A night out in Poulton ended in one man breaking a pal’s jaw with a single punch.
Allan Carter was struck by Daniel Everson, in the early hours of March 2 this year.
However, Mr Carter had written a letter to the judge, to state Everson had since apologised, and he hoped the note would help him in his crown court appearance.
Everson, 26, of Mains Lane, Poulton pleaded guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Paul Robinson, defending, said: “The defendant was only too happy so say it was him who committed the offence.”
Mr Robinson added that Everson went out twice a week, but did not drink to excess.
Everson was given a 12-month community order, to undertake 120 hours’ unpaid work. He was also told to pay Mr Carter £500 compensation.
