Tables were overturned in a restaurant when a man struggled violently with police trying to arrest him.

David Barnes made an animal-like noise and threw his chair at The Lemon Tree Indian Restaurant, Poulton, when an officer asked him his name.

In the end an officer had to pepper-spray him and put him in leg restraints to subdue him.

Barnes, 43, of Chester Avenue, Poulton, admitted two offences of resisting police.

He was already on a suspended prison sentence order and was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on January 9 for sentence by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutors said on October 10 a condom machine was damaged at the Golden Ball pub and the man responsible was thought to have gone to the Indian restaurant.

When police tried to speak to Barnes he ignored them and the fracas escalated. When interviewed Barnes admitted he had issues with alcohol and said his grandfather had died earlier in the week.
