Michael Wilson then ran off and when he was caught he lied to the police officer saying he had not been driving.

Wilson, a 43-year-old plasterer, of Brockholes Crescent, Poulton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol while disqualified and without insurance.

He was sentenced to 20 weeks jail, suspended for two years, banned from the road for four years and ordered to pay £85 costs plus £115 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Eddie Harrison, said Wilson was driving a Ford Fiesta on Dock Street, Fleetwood, on June 12 at 4.52pm , when he almost collided with a police car.

Wilson then fled, but was caught on nearby Albert Road. A breath test showed 57 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit. He had four previous convictions for drink-driving.

Steven Townley, defending, said Wilson had a young son who lived with his ex partner in Fleetwood. He had trouble having contact with the boy but on the day of the offence his ex called and said he could see him.

He borrowed his mother’s car and drove to see his son. Afterwards he visited a cousin who lived in the area and drank with him. He was driving back home when police saw him.
