A van driver diced with death when he drove on to a level crossing near Blackpool when a train was due.

Ahmed Imran, 33, of Brackenbury Road, Fulwood, Preston, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

He was fined £90 with £85 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates who put three motoring penalty points on his licence.

Ashley Fisher, prosecuting, said Imran ignored stop signals which indicated the barriers were about to come down and a train was due at Carleton level crossing on April 2 about 11am.

Imran drove onto the crossing and the signaller had to stop the barriers coming down as one would have hit the roof of Imran’s white van.

Imran apologised and said traffic in front of him stopped for a time so he could not move off the crossing before the barriers started coming down.
