Kasim Ali Ahmed, who ran Harvey’s Chicken and Pizza on Poulton Street, Kirkham, had previously pleaded guilty to 12 food hygiene breaches.

During the sentencing hearing on Friday, at Preston Crown Court, Judge HHJ Knowles acknowledged the ‘squalid, revolting conditions and the blatant disregard for food safety that had placed the public at an unacceptable level of risk’.

The judge heard how environmental health officers had worked to improve food hygiene conditions since July 21, 2016, and had noted little sign of improvement.

Offences included a persistent poor level of cleanliness, poor maintenance of the premises and the sale of unfit and putrefying food.

The council issued enforcement notices, including having the shop closed down to protect public health.

Ahmed received 12 six month prison sentences for each food hygiene charge, to run concurrently. He also received a sentence of four years and two months for breaching a 2016 suspended sentence for handling stolen goods.

Fylde Council has received information to suggest the takeaway is due to reopen.
