Blackpool convenience store targeted in '˜fire bomb' attack

Police investigating a '˜petrol bomb' attack on a convenience store in Blackpool last night have made an arrest.

Officers say an incendiary device was thrown through the window of the shop in Dickson Road at around 9.30pm.

A 31-year-old man from Blackpool has since been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is in custody.

One eye witness reported a woman and a boy suffered burns in the incident. Lancashire Police said a 14-year-old boy suffered a small burn to his neck during the incident.

Neighbours said a ‘gas canister in a back-pack’ was thrown into store. Police cordoned off the road for around an hour, with fire and ambulance crews in attendance.

A police spokesman said today: “Police were called around 9.20pm yesterday following reports a petrol bomb had been thrown at a shop front in Dickson Road.

“A man is believed to have approached the store, thrown a lit petrol canister at the building and made off from the scene.

“The fire caused minor damage and was put out using an extinguisher.

“A 14-year-old boy suffered a small burn to his neck during the incident.
