Coast prepared for storm

Floodgates will be closed this afternoon in preparation for a storm hitting the Fylde coast.

The barriers along Cleveleys seafront - from Kingsway to the Five Bar Gate near Rossall School - are being shut as a precaution as the MET Office today advised of strengthening westerly winds spreading north in the early hours of Thursday.

Gusts in the range of 60mph to 70mph are possible along the coast, and over higher ground.

This, combined with high tides at midnight and midday, will result in very large waves and spray hitting the shores.
