Prolific author Catherine has just produced a revised version of one of her most popular books, Ports and Harbours of the North-West Coast, which includes fascinating tales and pictures relating to Fleetwood.

Ports and Harbours of the North-West Coast is a fully-illustrated history of all of the ports, large and small, still active or long forgotten, from Liverpool and Birkenhead, via Fleetwood – of course – to Haverigg and Seathwaite.

Catherine originally produced the book more than 30 years ago, before revising and extending it in 2011. Now she has added still more photos and text, and will be staging a book signing at News & Wines (formerly Carleton News) on Poulton Road, Carleton on Saturday August 27, between 10am and 12.30pm.

The author, who lives in Carleton, said: “I still enjoy reading about local history and I thought it would be a good idea to add some extra things for the book. I suppose it’s not bad going for someone who is nearly 95!

“This new version of the book is more amplified and has more details, including items from the Isle of Man and all the little creek of the Fylde coast.”

Great grandmother Catherine, who is a mother-of three, has produced more than 80 books, many of them illustrated local histories.

The book includes enlightening details on Fleetwood’s shib-building past.
