FLEETWOOD businesses have felt the benefit after the town played host to a prestigious darts event over the weekend.

The town’s Marine Hall was packed on Saturday and Sunday when the British Darts Organisation’s home internationals were staged there.

Some of the best darts players in the country were there to represent England, Wales and Scotland, with darts fans flooding in to catch them in action.

And full seafront hotels and busy pubs were left wishing events like this could be held a little more often!

At the 54-room North Euston Hotel, assistant manger Stephen Dale told the Weekly News: “It was excellent – the hotel was full and eighty per cent of the guests were here for the darts event.

“We had the England darts team, including captain Martin Adams, staying here an they were a really good group.

“I would definitely say that this has been a boost to the local economy and full credit should go the tournament organiser, Tommy Thompson.”

At the 24-room New Boston Hotel on The Esplanade, Linda Wohlers said: “We were full, and most of people here were connected to the Welsh darts team.

“It has been a brilliant weekend here and the atmosphere has been really good.

“I just wish we had a few more events like this in Fleetwood.”

And down the road at The Mount pub, landlord Kevin Strain said: “We are normally busy at weekends but takings were even higher than normal – it’s been brilliant.”
