Big day for Charlotte as town gets ready for carnival parade

Fleetwood Carnival is ready to roll this Saturday.

One of the biggest events in Fleetwood’s calendar for more than 100 years, the summer spectacle has been many months in the planning.

And this year’s jamboree, featuring the colourful parade through the town, will be a day to remember for schoolgirl Charlotte Kennedy, of Poulton Road, Fleetwood.

Charlotte, 13, will be crowned Carnival Queen and is looking forward to putting on her gown, bought specially for the occasion.

Charlotte, a pupil of Millfield College of Science and Performing Arts in Thornton, said: “I’m looking forward to Saturday. I’ve tried the gown on and it’s really pretty.”

Charlotte will be crowned at 10.45am in the Mount Hotel pub, when current queen Hannah Praed hands over her crown.

The judging of the fancy dress, also at the Mount pub, and parade floats both begin at 11.45 am before the parade begins at 1pm prompt.

The parade will snake its way through the town, taking a route from The Esplanade near the Marine Hall, around by the North Euston Hotel and onto Lord Street, turning via Poulton Street into Poulton Road. It will then turning at Carr Road onto the Promenade and back to the Marine Hall. Once back at the Marine Hall, the parade with disperse.

Ann Hanvey, secretary of Fleetwood Carnival, said: “Regrettably due to rising costs we are not having a Fun Day event in the Marine Gardens following the parade, but people are welcome to join the parade. We just hope the sun shines for us all.”
