Arrest made after search for cinema sex attacker

Police investigating a sexual assault on a 14-year-old boy at a cinema have made an arrest.

At around 8pm on Saturday, March 12, a 14-year-old boy was in the toilets at the Middlebrook Vue Cinema in Horwich when he was approached by a man who sexually assaulted him before walking off.

Officers investigating the incident arrested a 77-year-old man yesterday (Monday) on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child.

He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Jon Ashcroft of GMP’s Bolton Division said: “We have made an arrest but our investigation continues and I would ask that anybody with information on this incident get in touch.

“We take incidents like this extremely seriously and we are continuing to provide support to the victim who was understandably left feeling very distressed.

“The cinema can be a very busy place on a Saturday night so it is possible that somebody may have witnessed something or have information that can assist our investigation”
