An epic day of beach sports on the Fylde coast

A summer programme of sports on our beaches and coastline was launched in epic style – with a host of exciting activities held at Fleetwood beach and boating lake, St Annes beach, and Blackpool’s central beach.

Walking, beach volleyball, rugby, cycling, cricket, kayaking and yoga were all showcased, highlighting the variety of beach and coastal activities available for different ages and abilities as part of LOVEmyBEACH’s Active Coast campaign.

Coun Lynne Bowen, Wyre Council’s health and leisure boss, said: “We are incredibly proud of our coast in Wyre and the Active Coast is a great way to showcase the quality of our beaches.”

Ashley Hackett, chief executive of Blackpool FC Community Trust, was on the beach at Blackpool, overseeing walking football for over-50s, and a kickabout with Year Six pupls from St John’s Primary School. He added: “Blackpool is fortunate to have a fantastic beach.” A schedule is online at Facebook.com/LmBActiveCoast.
