A Grade II-listed hotel, a popular wedding venue until it closed late last year, is set to be turned into a mental health retreat.

The Springfield House Hotel, in Pilling, will have 10 rooms looking after people suffering from alcoholism, depression, anxiety, or stress, if council planners give the go ahead.

The grand venue, built in Georgian times in around 1840, was put up for sale by the Cox family in the hope it could be sold off as a stately home, it was previously reported.

The building, tucked away in around 2.5 acres of countryside and surrounded by manicured lawns and a walled garden, was marketed in 2015 for at least £765,000, and later listed with a guide price of £875,000.

It failed to sell as a hotel, with Wyre Council agreeing it could be used for residential purposes earlier this year. That came after the business closed on New Year’s Eve.

Private firm Sanctum Healthcare wants to use the property to ‘provide confidential mental wellness retreats for people living with psychological challenges,’ papers filed with planners said.

“They will work with clients to build a unique voluntary residential program so they can return to living a happier and more balanced life.”

Customers will stay for around four weeks, though people with ‘more challenging’ issues that might require sectioning will not be accepted, documents added.

The county council’s roads department said the retreat would not impact on the roads, and did not object to the application.
