Comedy for Kids is a stand-up comedy show just for kids. It has some of the funniest people from the world of comedy. Hosted by your favourite panto star Phil Walker, and featuring comedians The Kagools and Lee Kyle - they will have you rolling about with laughter. Giant Bionic Bugs are invading WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre at Burscough this summer searching for the world’s largest bug hotel. Meet a 6ft long dragonfly, 6ft wingspan butterfly, ant, grasshopper, 4ft buzzing bee, all brought to life with state of the art animatronics and sound effects. Grab your free bug book when you arrive, and start your bug-tastic adventure, collecting stickers for doing eight activities. Open from 9,30am until 6pm. Admission prices vary.

Get up close and personal with nature and pop along to the Binocular and Telescope Open Weekend at RSPB Leighton Moss in Silverdale. The event runs from 10am to 4pm, when a variety of binoculars and telescopes will be on display for visitors to try out, as well as friendly, impartial advice from the knowledgeable team of staff and volunteers. The event is free to attend and suitable for all levels of bird and wildlife watchers. Normal admission prices apply.

The Wizard Academy returns to Leighton Hall and welcomes children to sign up for a day of spellbinding sorcery. For one day only the Wizard Academy allows children aged five to 12 to enjoy four magical themed lessons in the company of Attic Door Productions. Learning all about enchanting potions and bewitching incantations, you can also master the art of broomstick flying, and even tame a tawny owl. The HandleBards​, the world’s first cycling theatre company, bring their all-male production of Twelfth Night​ to Hoghton Tower. Join their troupe for a bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ like none other. Apoth-a-Kids is family-focussed free food initiative which aims to provide a helping hand during the summer holidays. The aim is to provide a free lunch for children and parents alike, plus a timetable of fun activities. It will run every Monday to Friday between the hours of 12pm and 2pm. There is no need to book and children must be accompanied at all time. Apoth-a-Kids takes place at Dice & Donuts in Preston and 75 Church Street in Lancaster. A family-oriented music festival bringing the community together to showcase local talent, providing exposure for both upcoming and established musicians and a great day out for the whole family. On Saturday Longridge and North Preston Rotary Club are holding a Cider and Fizz Festival at the Longridge Civic Hall. All the proceeds will be going to local good causes, as is the norm for the club. There will be two bands - The Heat, and The Accused - and a DJ playing live. And there will be a cider bar, a Prosecco cocktail bar and a Gin bar, plus pie and peas served from the kitchen. As always Longridge and North Preston Rotary Club believe in giving value for money at their events so all drinks are at cheaper than pub prices. Admission is £5. Doors are open 2pm until late.

FREE: Summer Garden, Fleetwood, until September 1

The Summer Garden will be open all day, every day throughout the summer holidays at the Affinity Lancashire outlet shopping centre in Fleetwood. It’s the perfect place to entertain the whole family, with a sandpit and garden games. If this isn’t enough, there’s extra entertainment every Wednesday with a traditional seaside Punch & Judy show.

Visit Barbara Barlow’s Cottage Garden in Chorley throughout the month of August. The story of Barbara’s garden starts in the 1970s when she used to help her mother with their garden centre in the back garden. The more she learned about plants the more her interest grew. By the time her children had grown and flown she was hooked. See the garden in all its glory on selected open days - Wednesdays and Thursdays - between 11am and 5pm. Alpha Omega Wrestling is family friendly, non-profit, award-winning entertainment featuring the best current and up-and-coming wrestlers from around the UK. All raising money for the restoration of the Alhambra building. This show is called Vendetta and features bouts between Ryan Hunter and Dylan Hunter, and more. It’s at The Carleton in Morecambe on Saturday, 6pm until 9.30pm. Tickets are £7 in advance; £10 on the door.

Explore the countryside tracks and paths from Knott End, either on foot or on a tramper on Saturday. Suitable clothing and footwear is required, and take binoculars and a packed lunch. Meet at 10am.
