Car overturns after two-vehicle crash closing key route between Blackpool and St Annes in both directions

Police said they were called to reports of a two-vehicle crash in Common Edge Road at around 12.15pm on Monday (October 17).
One of the cars overturned in the collision, blocking the road in both directions for a number of hours.

Hide AdOfficers confirmed “all people involved were able to get out of their vehicles” and road closures were put in place while the scene was cleared.
Blackpool Transport diverted the Service 17 bus (Blackpool town centre to Lytham) following the closure.
“Travelling to Lytham, the 17 will use its normal route to Squires Gate then divert via Clifton Drive, Highbury Road and Spring Gardens,” a spokesman said.
“Travelling to Blackpool, the 17 will use its normal route to Spring Gardens, diverting using Clifton Drive and Squires Gate, returning to the normal route at Common Edge Road.”

Hide AdHeavy traffic was also building in the surrounding area as motorists attempted to divert away from the closure.
One motorist posted on social media: “Traffic absolutely snarled up everywhere as Queensway into St Annes closed.
“Queues to [Squires Gate] then all the way down to St Annes on the front.
“Avoid at all costs."
Two fire engines from St Annes and South Shore attended to help clear the scene and make the area safe.

Hide AdLancashire Fire and Rescue Service said two casualties were assessed by paramedics and received treatment at the scene.
Firefighters were in attendance for approximately an hour and a half.
