The amenity would be opened at a unit on Cocker Avenue, on Poulton industrial estate, subject to planning permission, with one full-time and four part-time employees.

It would occupy a relatively modest floor area of 104 square metres and the mezzanine – an intermediate floor built between two main floors - would provides an additional 20 square metres of floorspace

Town planners RTPI said in a design statement for the application: “The main focus of the gym will be on yoga and wellness classes, something that is not offered widely at the other two gyms on the estate.

“The applicant wants to create an affordable and accessible facility.”

Of the level of demand for the amenity, it was said: “With over 200 hundred businesses within the park, the corresponding high levels of employees will ensure a demand for the classes, from directly within the estate.

"The use of this small unit as a gym, yoga and wellness studio will make it easier for employees in the area to lead healthy and active lifestyles and will create employment opportunities.”

A number of other properties had been looked at for possible premises for the studio, but none had been suitable.

It is proposed that the studio would open from 8am to 9pm from Monday to Friday and from 8am until 6pm at weekends.

A decision on the application is pending.
