Jumping for joy at St Mary's
Students at St Mary’s Catholic Academy Sixth Form were beaming broadly come results day, as an amazing 63 per cent of students at the sixth form achieved the highest grades of A*, A or distinction.
22 per cent of the overall grades were either A*s or As, with 100% of students achieving two A-levels or equivalent passes.

Hide AdSixth form student Jan Mieszczak, 19, of Toronto Avenue, is heading off to study natural sciences at Cambridge after achieving A* grades in maths and further maths, and As in chemistry, physics and Polish.
He said: “I feel positively shocked and very pleased with the results which are the yield of all the hard work throughout the years. I chose St Mary’s because of the sense of community and the great level of support I received throughout high school.”
Former sixth form President Ghassan Al-ldari, 18, of Vernon Avenue, achieved As in biology, chemistry and maths, and a B in politics.
He is now looking forward to studying medicine at Hull University.

Hide AdHe said: “I studied a lot during my exams and I became quite sedentary, so I piled on a few pounds! Now that it’s over I’m proud to say I’ve lost eight kilograms!”
Headteacher Simon Eccles said: “I am extremely proud of the achievements of our students who have worked so hard to prepare for their examinations and are seeing the fruits of their labours today with an excellent set of results. I would like to thank the staff at St Mary’s who supported the students every step of the way.
“I would also like to thank the parents who have helped and supported the students and the academy over the years.”
