Smoke could be seen rising into the air as fire crews battled a grass blaze near a residential estate in Blackpool.

Firefighters battled a fire in Rathmore Gardens, North Shore, at around 12.30pm today (June 1).

Pictures from the scene show fire crews battling a blaze next to a residential property and clouds of smoke filling the air.

Firefighters have confirmed a patch of grassland had caught alight and two hose reels were used to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a fire in Rathmore Gardens at 12.26pm.

"One fire engine from Blackpool attended the scene.

"There's grass alight and they're using two hose reels to extinguish it."
