A teenager caught driving while banned said he did not know he had been disqualified.

Timothy Palin, 19, of Dinmore Avenue, Grange Park, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified without insurance.

He was sentenced to do 180 hours unpaid work for the community, banned from the road for 17 months and ordered to pay £85 costs with £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Martine Connah, said a police patrol stopped Palin on February 19 at 11pm, as he drove a Renault Megane on the resort’s Beech Road.

He admitted not having a licence and checks showed he had been banned from the road until July this year.
