Members of the junior pop club at Preston ballroom Top Rank are nearing their target of 50 bags of silver paper to buy a guide dog for a blind person. The children, aged between six and 13, will be able to see the results of their efforts when the dog is brought along by members of the Guild Dogs for the Blind Association who will receive the cheque to pay for it

The thousand women who work at a Preston mail order firm had one complaint. There weren't enough males to order! After they had tackled operations manager, Mr John Gunning, about it, he thought he had better do something. So he invited comedian Jack Douglas to tour the firm's Tulketh Mill to cheer them up a bit

Somebody had forgotten to read the small print of Blackpool Corporation's by-laws when Granada TV decided to film a scene for their new comedy programme These Two Fellers in the resort's Stanley Gardens. Comedians Duggie Brown and Frank Carson were thwarted when it was realised they wouldn't be able to pick flowers. But Coun. Edmund and the Hon. Mrs Nancy Wynne, Blackpool's Mayor and Mayoress came to the rescue and allowed them to film in their garden

Chip shovelling gourmet Harry Haddock had his chips and ate them - but a trifle unhappily. It was not the lack of salt and vinegar which made connoisseur Harry glum as he tucked into his favourite dish. The reason was that the self-appointed chip chomping champion of the village of Adlington, near Chorley, had been out-done during what may prove to be the world's first chip-making competition.
