A Lancashire engineering firm has unveiled a technological breakthrough which could revolutionise bridge building worldwide. Staff at GEC Plastics in Warton, near Preston, have made the strongest glass-reinforced plastic structure ever built. Designed to carry 18 tons, the 18m beam will be used for footbridge building.
