Health bosses reveal why GP receptionists who ask what's wrong aren't just being nosy
Receptionists in Fylde and Wyre have been trained to ask why people are calling to make sure people receive the right treatment.
Chiefs say that isn’t always with a GP – but could also be a practice nurse, health care assistant, or community pharmacist.

Hide AdReceptionists can also offer a consultation over the phone, or tell people they’d be best visiting the Walk-In Centre.
Fleetwood GP Dr Adam Janjua (pictured) said: “We need people to understand that when the person who answers the phone at their GP practice asks why they are calling they are not being nosy.
“This is for a very good reason and will make sure they get the best possible care for their situation.”
Practices are also now required to have a recorded message explaining why the person answering the call will ask for details.
