A SHOW packed with music and mirth is being staged this week as part of a local group’s 75th birthday celebrations.
Thornton Cleveleys Operatic Society are pulling out all the stops for their annual Songs From The Shows production, this year subtitled Love And Laughter.
It is packed with well-known songs from musicals and films, from show-stopping numbers from classics such as South Pacific, Show Boat, Oklahoma!, Annie Get Your Gun to more contemporary numbers from Tv shows like Glee.
And there’s more – the show also includes some TV sketches including a classic from The Two Ronnies. Love & Laughter is being performed at Thornton Little Theatre from Tuesday, April 5, to Saturday, April 9.
The show begins at 7.30pm each night. Tickets are £7 (concessions) and £7.50, and can be ordered by ringing (01253) 860856.
In addition to Love And Laughter, the society will also mark the anniversary be teaming up with the Greater Manchester Police Band for a concert at Fleetwood’s Marine Hall on Saturday, June 11, before a full-scale production of Me And My Girl in October, also at the Marine Hall.
The society, which still boasts two founder members in Ralph and Sheila Duxbury amongst its throng, has seen many talented performers tread it’s boards over the years.
They include Fleetwood’s internationally renowned operatic tenor Alfie Boe and TV star Hayley Tamaddon. To round off the year in style, a dinner dance will be held at he North Euston Hotel, Fleetwood, on Saturday, October 15, and it is hoped that many former members will join the celebrations.
