Park has its biggest and best fun day

There was plenty to smile about as a Fleetwood park hosted its annual fun day.

Organisers of the event at Memorial Park were determined to go above and beyond this time around to celebrate the ongoing £2.4m restoration of the landmark.

There was street theatre and walkabout puppet shows on top of the usual children’s attractions at the family spectacle on Saturday.

There was also a display from local gymnasts Bulldog Display Team.

A spokesman for Wyre Council, which helps organise the event along with the Friends of Memorial Park, said: “We went all out with the Friends of Memorial Park Group to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever, in celebration of the restoration that is currently underway and Love Parks Week.

“We added street theatre, circus artists and walkabout puppets to the entertainment in addition to the favourites of bouncy castle, Bulldogs Display Team and Punch and Judy.”

Restoration work on the Grade II-listed park is currently taking place thanks to a £2.4m grant from the Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery Funds.

The next event at the park will be 100 Years: 100 Hopes, which is timed to coincide with the centenary of the start of the First World War. For details visit www.wyre.gov.uk/memorialpark
