INTERNATIONAL opera legend José Carreras has been confirmed as the headline act for Preston Guild 2012’s Proms in the Park.
The concert is set to be one of the most prestigious events in the classical calendar this year.
Avenham Park will be transformed into an open-air amphitheatre on September 7, for Preston Proms in the Park with the Manchester Camerata Orchestra conducted by David Gimenez Carreras.
As dusk falls José will take to the stage supported by a number of international operatic stars as he sings for the first time in the UK since 2009.
Plans have also been revealed for a range of amazing events designed to attract families, people of all ages, businesses and sports lovers to Avenham and Miller Park which will become an extraordinary festival site and host to a 10-day long programme that will mark the grand finish to an action packed Guild year for Preston.

SUPERSTAR Elton John (left) is performing in Blackpool this summer for the first time in three decades.
The concert will take place on the newly created Tower Festival Headland, Blackpool, adjacent to The Blackpool Tower and located on the world famous Golden Mile, on Saturday June 16.
Thousands of fans will have the opportunity to dance and sing along to a succession of Elton’s much-loved songs in this specially created fully seated outdoor arena.
Tickets for this fully reserved seated show will go on sale this Friday at 9am.
Elton John said: “I have played over 3000 concerts – but I haven’t performed in Blackpool for 30 years!”
Elton will become the first ever artist to play the Tower Festival Headland.
