Blackpool’s Got Talent!

All eyes were once more on Blackpool as Britain’s Got Talent again showcased auditions filmed in the resort.

Auditionees were seen marching down the Promenade, before Ant and Dec took viewers behind the scenes at the Winter Gardens, where filming took place back in January.

The Opera House looked stunning, with a packed live audience lapping up the entertainment on offer.

Celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams were seen enjoying the atmosphere in the vast theatre, dancing and singing along to the acts on stage.

Among those to feature were a 12ft robot, singing A-Ha’s Take On Me, The Boyz singing group - of 27 to 40-something year olds recreating 90s pop hits, and father and daughter opera act Martin and 10-year-old Faye - with all three winning through to the next round.

Unfortunately, the only home town act on show, Maternal Instinct - a mother and daughter duo - failed to impress.

To sing on such an iconic stage in front of so many people and obviously in front of the judges is a dream come true

Kim and Bethany Markham, who have been singing together at weddings, hotels and clubs on the Fylde coast for the past year, were excited to be on the area’s biggest stage, and gave their version of Labbi Sifri#s Something Inside So Strong

“This is a massive deal to us, we’re used to small audiences, but being here’s truly amazing

“To sing on such an iconic stage in front of so many people and obviously in front of the judges is a dream come true.”

Cutting them short, Simon Cowell dashed the duo’s dreams, saying: “You actually do sound like not very good wedding singers if I’m being honest with you

“You’ve got so many bad habits and it’s what I call karaoke, that’s the truth.

David Walliams was kinder, saying he didn’t think they were ready to be up in front of the Royal family, while Amanda Holden added: “I love the fact that you’re mother and daughter and I was getting ready to well up and go ‘Oh yay’ and I just didn’t feel anything.”

And Alesha praised Beth’s vocals.

One of Saturday’s highlights was teenager Harry Gardner, who’d travelled North from Essex for his big opportunity, with an emotional song written for his nan in tribute to her after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Auditions are continuing on the ITV prime time talent show, with Saturday’s broadcast following a previous episode which featured the resort.

On that occasion, eight-year-old wizard-wannabe Issy Simpson from Blackpool impressed the judges, audience and TV viewers alike, with her magic act. Although she comes from Blackpool and featured in a show seemingly filmed at the Opera House, her audition actually took place at The Lowry in Salford.

Her family is eagerly waiting the possible call for her to appear in the live semi-finals week later this month.
