Intrepid explorer's wild about Blackpool

In a first for Blackpool, BAFTA award winning TV presenter, adventurer, naturalist and children's author, Steve Backshall, visits the Grand Theatre later this year to take audiences on a '˜Wild World' tour of the real life expeditions that have inspired his books The Falcon Chronicles and his new novel in the series, Shark Seas.

Steve is one of the hottest properties on telly today, thanks to exposure in BBC 2’s Steve Backshall’s Extreme Mountain Challenge, and six part ITV series Fierce, which started last month, and is still mid-transmission featuring epic adventures in Guyana, Mexico, Namibia, Indonesia, Australia and South Africa.

Along the way he’s encountered the world’s most venomous snake, got perilously close to the largest carnivorous reptile in South America, the giant Black Caiman, gone eye to eye with crocodiles, swam alongside bull sharks and narrowly escaped the jaws of a Komodo Dragon.

That’s over and above his month with the BBC climbing untouched mountain cliffs in Venezuela and abseiling off the world’s tallest waterfall. So Backshall is decidedly down to earth for his theatre tour which takes in the Grand on November 13. The theatre’s marketing manager Andrew Howard is thrilled with bagging the high profile explorer for the theatre. He explains: “Steve Backshall’s Wild World takes you on a wild journey, illustrated with photos and films from the Arctic to the Antarctic, from the tundra to the top of the world’s highest peaks, and from the depths of the rainforest to the bottom of the ocean. This talk is suitable for wildlife enthusiasts of all ages from eight to 80.

“Wild World tour will have something for everyone as Steve will give his audiences a glimpse behind the scenes to what he claims is ‘the best job in the world’. Tales from his nail-biting adventures to the world’s wildest places with the most bizarre and deadly beasts on earth will leave audiences of all ages on the edge of their seats.”

It also accompanies the release of Shark Seas, the fourth book in Steve’s Falcon Chronicle series of children’s novels, copies of which will be on sale at the theatre. To book visit www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk/familyfriendly, or call 01253 290190
