Here come 60s’ heroes The Manfreds!

The Manfreds

The Manfreds

It was the decade which put Britain on the pop and rock map.

In the 1960s The Beatles and The Rolling Stones led the way in a phenomenon which America called ‘The British Invasion’.

In the wake of those legendary bands cracking America came a string of others keen to make their mark in The States, including rock group, Manfred Mann.

And this Saturday night, a reincarnation of Manfred Mann, packed with original members, will perform live at Fleetwood’s Marine Hall.

Although their eponymous founder, Manfred Mann himself, is not on board, the band includes lead singer and harmonica ace Paul Jones and fellow originals Mike Hugg on keyboards and Tom McGuinness on guitar. They are joined by top musicians Rob Townsend on drums, Marcus Clife on bass guitar and Simon Currie on saxophone/lute.

The Manfreds will be performing many of Manfred Mann’s biggest hits including 5-4-3-2-1, Pretty Flamingo and Do Wah Diddy Diddy (a number one hit in the UK and America).

They will also perform a mix of solo hits and jazz and rhythm ’n’ blues renditions for which they are famous.

Despite various line-up changes and shifts in style, the band continued to be a major force throughout the rest of the decade, including hits such as The One in the Middle, With God on Our Side and If You Gota Go, Go Now.

The concert, part of The Manfreds’ latest tour, begins 7.30pm. Tickets for the gig cost £19.50 and £17.50 concessions. Call (01253) 887693.
