He’s determined to be the next skating sensation from the Fylde coast – and Harry Walford is well on his way thanks to a new sponsorship deal.
The 11-year-old Anchorsholme School pupil, from Cleveleys, has only been skating for two years and is already used to training among champions.
Now, thanks to sponsorship from the Ben Trend Foundation, he’s set to take part in a top training camp over the spring half-term.
Mum Sarah said: “In the short time he has been skating he’s achieved the Great Britain Regional Development pathway plan and attended a skate camp in Scotland last April.
“At that last camp he was fortunate to be training with 11-times British Champion Jenna McCorkell and four-times British Champion Matt Parr, along with some other amazingly talented skaters.
“He really hopes it will be the same turn out this year, and is excited that The Ben Trend Foundation have seen his potential and supported him on his next journey.”
Harry currently trains at Blackburn Ice Rink, and will be working on his skill from 6am most days. Sarah said at the weekends he was usually there until 4pm.
Once the new rink opens at the former TVR site, it will become his new skating base.
The Ben Trend Foundation was formed following the death of young Ben, a keen sportsman from Blackpool.
Ben died tragically in an accident while he was in South Africa with friends in 2010, just after his 30th birthday.
The foundation was set up to provide funding each year to individuals and organisations involved in sport in the Blackpool and Fylde area as well as in South West London, where Ben lived for the last eight years of his life.
A spokesman for the foundation said: “We are delighted to support Harry – another budding sports star from the Fylde coast – in his bid to achieve his Olympic dream.
“His training schedule is incredibly hard.
“We hope our sponsorship of his elite skate camp will help him on his fantastic journey.”
Harry will be looking to secure funding for the next skate camp in August.
