VANDALS have struck at a new Thornton park – less than a month after it was officially opened.

Fence panels have been ripped off, graffiti has been daubed on play equipment and an attempt made to start a fire.
Hawthorne Park enjoyed a gala launch on May 31, but now repair operations must begin – with some young people volunteering to put right the damage done by others.
Phase I of the £130,000 park includes play equipment, lighting, a wildflower and wildlife habitat and landscaping.
A spokesman for Wyre Council said repairs may have to be funded by grants for the next phase of development.
