Tributes paid to law firm founder
A CLEVELEYS man who set up a well-known law firm has died.
Fredrick Irving Harris, who was 90, set up Irving Harris and Co on Church Street, Blackpool.
Cleveleys-born Mr Harris died peacefully in his sleep in Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
He was also chairman of TVR during the car firm's early years.
His widow, Joan, 86, described him as a "perfect gentleman" with "many interests and hobbies".
Mr Harris was chairman of South Shore Probus Club, president of South Shore Tennis Club and on the town council for four years.
He was also the chairman of the Round Table when it re-formed in 1948 and he was the first chairman of TVR.
Mr Harris, who was known as "Derick" by many friends, worked as a signals officer in the RAF bomber command at Bletchley Park, known as Station X, during World War Two.
After returning from military service, he set up his own law firm in 1948, where he worked until he retired.
Mr and Mrs Harris had been married for 66 years.
The funeral will be held on Friday May 2 at Victoria Conference Church on Newton Drive.
