A SEAFRONT cafe in Cleveleys which was built as part of the town's multi-million pound coastal defence developments will finally be hooked up to electric power sources in "a matter of weeks".
Wyre Council says the cafe, situated just opposite the Royal Venue pub and restaurant, has no electricity at the present time but work is underway to ensure it is connected soon.
Residents in Cleveleys have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the t
own's latest cafe, which is sited in a distinctive round shaped building.
It will be the only cafe in the town which is sited on the beach side of the promenade, just a few yards from the sea wall.
The building has been shuttered up for more than a year, but an operator is all ready to move in once power is available.
It was built in the opening phase of the award-winning Cleveleys New Wave Scheme, which has boosted the town's coastal defences.
A council spokeswoman said: "We expect the operator to be moving in there within just a few weeks, and there will be a grand opening a little later on in the summer."
The Cleveleys New Wave scheme is designed to rejuvenate the People's Promenade and Jubilee Gardens, and at the same time provide valuable flood protection to 8,700 properties.
Phase Three of the work, officially opened by Mayor of Wyre Councillor Keith Riley on Saturday April 19, extended the sea wall from Beach Road to Victoria Road West, incorporated stunning new features including amphitheatre-type steps and round-roof shelters boasting ambient lighting.
Wyre Council has now secured a further £3m from the Environment Agency for Phase Four of the scheme, which will see the sea wall extended still further south to the Blackpool Borough border at Kingsway later this year.
